And some special events…
It appears a group decided to re-enact the death of the great explorer Ferdinand Magellan at the hands of datu Lapu-lapu on the island of Mactan in Cebu. For those not familiar with this historical event, here is a link from one perspective.

Magellan’s landing party hits the beaches of Mactan. With fire and sword,
and in this re-enactment, with the Cross, Magellan vows to teach the
recalcitrant datu Lapu-Lapu a lesson.

Charge… Avanti…

Magellan’s landing party is attacked by half-naked native warriors armed
with spears, hardened stakes, bows and arrows and swords.

Those boats in the distance must belong to Rajah Humabon and his men
as they watch the fray from a distance.

Fighting a rear guard action to save his men, Magellan is cut down in shallow
waters, whereupon Lapu-Lapu finishes him off with a kampilan, or is that a
Visayan pinuti? The survivors scamper to the safety of their boats.

Lapu-Lapu beheads Magellan and hoists his head for his men to see.

Thus fell Magellan, whom Pigafetta called “our mirror, our light,
our comfort and our true guide.”
