Through a phone call, Dr. Augusto Legasto better known to us as Steve Legasto invited me to lunch. We met at the Podium on Ortigas Ave., with Steve accompanied by Ernie Diokno. We then walked to the next building called the St. Francis Square, where we had lunch at the food court.

Ernie and I found out that Steve’s wife owned and ran a place at the food court, serving home cooked Filipino food. Steve’s wife named Ruth was young, comely and very personable and served up some delicious Filipino food, on the house.

I have not seen Steve since high school, although we did exchange personal emails a few times because of the Luxid forum. The three of us discussed business opportunities, school matters and our personal lives.

Steve has always been a soft-spoken and deliberate person. I found him a more mellow and more sensitive person than the academician, one-time bureaucrat and Ph.D. that he is. Life has a way of changing us all. I would hazard a guess that several marriages (Steve has been widowed and divorced), an inter-racial and blended family, and living abroad have contributed to Steve’s pragmatic yet compassionate philosophy of life.

Thanks for satisfying my craving for Filipino food, Steve, and for sharing your personal insight into life and living.

Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, La Finca Resort, Lipa, Batangas

Baby Boy had left for Babes Oreta’s fabled La Finca Resort at Lipa, Batangas the day earlier, to compete in the Luxid golf tournament, so I took the Coaster that left from the DBP Building in Makati, together with more than a dozen other rowdy Luxids.

The scenic Malarayat Golf Course right next to La Finca Resort,
where the Luxid golfers played. This is an action shot of
a Luxid 5-putting the green on this hole. Guess who?

The Luxid golfers and duffers. Baby Boy Poblador, standing,
extreme left, the hustler from Wack Wack Country Club, won
the Luxid Malarayat Classic 2007.

Inside the Coaster bus on the way to La Finca Resort, Lipa,
Batangas. You can see me dozing at the back. Must have
been another hard day’s night. Willie Villareal and Jay
Macalincag seem to be enjoying the outside sights.
