ATENEO REUNION IN THE PHILIPPINES 2007
By Jay de Leon

On Nov. 21, 2007, I flew to the Philippines out of Los Angeles, California, the day before Thanksgiving. Among other events, I was scheduled to attend the celebration of the Ruby Anniversary of my batch at the Ateneo de Manila in Loyola Heights, Quezon City on Dec. 8, 2007.

In addition to the scheduled as well as many anticipated private reunions with former classmates, I was also looking forward to reunion with relatives and friends in the Philippines, as well as to some martial arts activities, mostly with fellow brothers in arm with my organizations, the International Modern Arnis Federation of the Phil. (IMAFP) and the Filipino Fighting Arts, Int’l (FFAI), both headquartered in Manila.

I have recounted my martial-arts related events and experiences during this trip in another article, entitled “Philippine Odyssey 2007” published in one of my websites.

This article focuses on the many official as well as unofficial reunions related to the Ruby Anniversary of my batch at the Ateneo de Manila Grade School and High School. I went to another school for college, but that is another saga.

Luxid is the group name for my batchmates who graduated the same year either in grade school, high school or college, and is an acronym for an Ateneo motto, “Lux in Domino” meaning “Light in the Lord.”

The Venue
During my stay in Manila, home was some fashionable digs at one of those exclusive condos in Wack Wack, Mandaluyong, right next to the Wack Wack Country Club. I was the guest of friend and former classmate Honorio Poblador III, known to one and all as Baby Boy. His household was efficiently and lovingly run by pretty wife Elo.

Baby Boy and Elo lived in the condo unit. Their daughter Angela came home for the holidays from Paris, France and their condo unit was really a staging area for numerous relatives including a battalion of grandchildren and their nannies, so their home was a beehive of activities while I was ensconced there.
